Refuge Band was formed as a student band in 2002 for the Refuge College Ministry of The Chapel On The Campus at LSU. Since its inception, the main goal of the band has been to inspire and encourage the body of believers at the Refuge 7:37 Experience to worship God corporately through prayer, meditation, and music. There have always been multiple vocalists in Refuge Band, using songs from current worship artists as well as traditional hymns. Founding member, Evan Godbold, has welcomed the changing band roster of college students who have a heart for the campus. Current members are: Drew Kearney (guitars, vocals), Evan Godbold (guitars, vocals), Taylor Huckaby (keyboards, programming, vocals), Max Adams (bass), and Kyle Vallot (drums/percussion).
Not only is it the band’s desire to lead college students in worship, but Refuge Band members also desire to reproduce themselves so that they continually have new members learning how to lead people in worship. That is why Refuge Band has chosen to be a revolving door of musicians and worship leaders, and from year to year, the band may look completely different.
Refuge Band is not in the business of getting famous or becoming a touring band. Their heart is for people to encounter God through music and worship Him in Spirit and Truth. As long as they continue to instill that desire in other musicians and worship leaders, along with leading well themselves, then they are accomplishing their goals.
